• Spiridione and Noel Vella will be displaying statues depicting the passion of Christ at the Sacred Family Oratory, New Street, Siġġiewi (left hand side of St Nicholas church) until Good Friday.

The exhibition will be open on weekdays and Saturdays between 5 and 8pm, today from 9am to noon and 5 to 8pm and on Good Friday from 9am to noon. On Wednesday, the exhibition will be closed.

• Din l-Art Ħelwa urges members and friends to take books and bric-a-brac to the Msida Bastion Historic Graden, Floriana in good time, before April 26, for its spring fete. The garden is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9.30am to noon.

• Din l-Art Ħelwa is holding a talk by Major Tony Abela entitled ‘World War II radars and military history at Dingli’ on April 9 at 6.30pm at its premises at 133, Melita Street, Valletta at 18.30. The talk will be delivered in English and is free of charge. However, a donation to Din l-Art Ħelwa by all attending will be appreciated. These donations help fund DLĦ’s restoration projects.

• The Band Commission of Our Lady of the Lily Band Club of Mqabba, in collaboration with Aġenzija Zgħazagħ, is holding an Easter concert with the participation of Our Lady of the Lily Band, under the direction of Mro Andrew Calleja, on April 5 at 6.45pm at the band club.

• The following events will be held at Manresa retreat house, Victoria: Claire Camilleri and Ros. Scicluna will lead a retreat in the countryside from May 1 to 3. • Lenten talks in English will be held at the University chapel, Msida, from tomorrow to Wednesday at 8pm. The talks, entitled Dramatis Personae: Witnesses to the Way of the Cross, will focus on six characters who played a role during Holy Week, reflecting particularly on the notion of Christian witness. The speaker is UK Jesuit provincial Fr Dermot Preston. Child minding will be provided.

• Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar is holding a repeat of Dane Munro’s lecture on the symbolism of St John’s Co-Cathedral tombstones and monuments on April 15.

An authority on the history and art of the Order of St John, Munro will give his interpretation of the symbols on the marble tombstones and monuments, presenting an original view on the relationship between the deceased, the viewer and the complex symbolic iconography of the monuments that form part of ‘the most beautiful floor in the world’. Munro’s presentation will use digital photo-enhancing, isolating the layers of perception and symbols on a selection of tombstones to cloearly illustrate their various meanings .

This talk will be held at the Phoenicia Hotel, Floriana, at 6.30pm. Afterwards the hotel will offer dinner of pasta or salad with a glass of wine and coffee for €18.
