A public garden in Siġġiewi will be renovated and dedicated to cartoonist Maurice Tanti Burlò.

The Siġġiewi council said the play area in Nikol Zammit street would be renamed Nalizpelra Playground, dedicated to Mr Tanti Burlò, for several years a Times of Malta cartoonist.

Mr Tanti Burlò, or ‘Nalizpelra’, who passed away last December, lived in Siġġiewi for almost 30 years and loved the village so much that its countryside often appeared in his drawings.

The council filed a development application with the planning authority. The project is expected to cost around €160,000 and is meant to be completed in 2016.

It had already managed to obtain around €30,000 from the government’s capital projects fund, the council said.
