It was very courteous of Maurice Mizzi to express his opinion about the spring hunting referendum (‘The referendum’, The Sunday Times of Malta, March 22).

In his letter, he said that if the decision goes against the hunters, they will lose only two to three weeks’ hunting in spring while they will still be able to shoot birds during the five months starting from September.

However, Mizzi did not mention which birds can be shot during the winter months. Does he mean that sparrows and robins could also be shot then, as to my knowledge (not being a hunter) I do not know of many other birds that will be present in Malta at that time.
