Times Talk (March 24) had Mgr Charles J. Scicluna, Malta’s new Archbishop, as the main guest.

For reasons best known to himself, one of the presenters asked the new Archbishop whether he could address him as “Fr Charles”. The Archbishop diplomatically and politely found no objection.

Queen Elizabeth II will soon be visiting Malta with other members of the British royal family.

Perhaps the same presenter would like to invite her to the Times Talk programme and ask her whether he could address her as “Mrs Elizabeth Windsor”, just to show how “cool and modern” he is, as he tried to project himself in the TV show.

I have always admired Times of Malta as a newspaper of very high standards and correctness. I’m afraid this time have the same qualities were not evident.

Editorial note: Mgr Scicluna himself had specifically asked the presenter in question to address him as Fr Charles.
