The deep-frozen bodies of two children found by court officers evicting their mother from her Michigan home are thought to have been hidden for two years.

Mitchelle Blair, of Detroit, will appear in court later today on five counts of first-degree child abuse, but could face more serious charges once investigators determine how the youngsters died.

Blair was arrested on Tuesday after the officers opened the freezer and found the bodies of her daughter Stoni Blair and her son Stephen Berry. Prosecutors believe Stoni was 13 and Stephen nine when they died.

Post-mortem examinations were planned today, but could be delayed if the bodies have not thawed.

Blair's 17-year-old daughter and eight-year-old son have been placed in protective custody.
