The government has filed an application with the planning authority for the dismantling of the tanks in Birzebbuga, the oldest one of which was built in 1919, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said evening.

Speaking during an activity held as part of the councils’ elections campaign in Birzebbuga, Dr Muscat said the people of the south would be taking something back after having suffered for many years.

He said the government was also working to implement the waterpolo and football pitches projects and it would be working on the Qajjenza promenade in future.

This government, Dr Muscat said, was not concentrating on just one part of the island but on all of it.

The Prime Minister also said that Malta was the only EU country to pass the Energy Efficiency EU directive test, which stated how energy audits and contracts should be issued.

Malta, he said, was the only country to follow the implementation deadline of the directive, which was June last year.

He also spoke on the interconnector project and on the €7 million private investment on the Valletta indoor market to transform the place into a modern attraction.

The investment, he said, also meant more jobs and an annual rent of €450,000.
