Irate drivers received a total of €25,963.52 from Transport Malta between 2007 and 2014 as compensation for damage caused to their vehicles by bad roads.

The information was given in Parliament by Transport Minister Joe Mizzi. He was answering a PQ by government MP Anthony Agius Decelis.

The largest amount in any one year, €7,266.17 in 2012, was paid for 55 accepted claims. The lowest amount, probably because word had not yet got around that such claims could be made, was €164.10 for 22 claims in 2008.

There had been 548 claims in all, 209 of which were accepted, 264 rejected and 76 were still pending.
