Celtic fined: Scottish champions Celtic have been fined €8,000 by UEFA for the misconduct of their players during a Europa League tie against Inter in Italy last month. The two teams were also fined €5,000 each after fans let off fireworks inside the San Siro, UEFA said. The second-leg tie, which Inter won 1-0 for a 4-3 aggregate victory, was littered with yellow cards. There were six for Celtic, including two for Virgil van Dijk, and two for Inter.

Santos: Portugal coach Fernando Santos has won an appeal to have his eight-match ban reduced after being charged with misconduct while managing Greece at last year’s World Cup, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said yesterday. The 60-year-old Santos was sent from the dugout after extra time of Greece‘s 1-1 draw with Costa Rica. Greece lost the penalty shootout and Santos was subsequently found guilty of “improper conduct” by FIFA. However, CAS has cut the “excessive” eight-match ban to four games, with two matches of the sanction deferred for a probationary period of six months.

Skrtel: Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel was charged with violent conduct for appearing to stamp on Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea during Sunday’s Premier League clash, the FA said. The incident, in stoppage-time of United’s 2-1 victory at Anfield, was missed by match officials. Skrtel appeared to tread on De Gea’s calf.

Van Bronckhorst: Former Barcelona and Arsenal defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be promoted to Feyenoord’s head coach next season, the Dutch club said. Van Bronckhorst, who won 106 caps for the Netherlands, is working as assistant coach at the Rotterdam club but will take over from Fred Rutten at the end of the season.

Real Madrid: Real Madrid have suspended a club member and banned him from their installations pending an inquiry after three men insulted players and struck at least one of their vehicles as they were leaving the training ground on Sunday. Players including Gareth Bale and forward Jese were targeted along with coach Carlo Ancelotti after they arrived back in Madrid following their 2-1 defeat at Barcelona.

Serie B: Varese vs Frosinone 1-4.

Lega Pro: (Group C) Martina vs Barletta 0-1.
