Health and Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi said this evening that plans for the opening of a private hospital in Smart City was a very positive development which confirmed the confidence which foreign investors have in the country.

Replying to questions in parliament by Jason Azzopardi (PN) following a story in the Sunday Times of Malta yesterday, the minister said he could not say much at this stage since this was a strictly private investment, with Smart City.

However, he said, the prospective investor was interested in opening a hospital focused on a number of medical sectors, notably orthopaedics. The investment will be aimed at medical tourism.

The agreement is expected to be signed in the near future.

The investment, he said, had nothing to do with the investors in St James Hospital.
