A hunger strike which had been under way by inmates at Corradino Correctional Facilities was called off after two days, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said in parliament.

Mr Abela told Beppe Fenech Adami (PN) that seven inmates had started the strike on March 12 because they refused to be transferred to Division 6 after their urine had tested positive.

Two of the inmates had called off their strike on March 13, and the other five had done likewise on the 14th.

The minister said the inmates’ conditions were closely followed by a CCF medical team, but they continued to be kept in Division 6.
