The Opposition has formally requested the Auditor General to investigate the government's €1 million fund for capital projects by local councils.

The opposition spokesman for local council, David Agius, told parliament this evening that the Opposition felt the administration of the fund lacked good governance and equity, with some councils having been refused funds while other councils which made similar requests were given the funds promptly.

MINISTRY REACTION

in a reaction, the Ministry for Justice and local councils said it had no problem about the holding of the inquiry requested by Mr Agius and it would also request an inquiry into schemes for local councils drawn up under the former government and which had caused financial problems for many councils.
