Once again, Transport Malta has managed to devise a system whereby traffic, and a great deal of it, is the order of the day.

Transport Malta is making a name for itself for doing the unthinkable. At the Sliema Strand, the other day, I witnessed several employees colouring the road green and sprinkling gravel on top, which I presume will become the bus lane. There was a great deal of traffic as cars could only use the one available lane. Believe me, the queue was long.

Several weeks ago, people who, unlike the person who devised this plan, use a car, had written about the consequences of creating a bus lane the entire length of Gżira. I am surprised the ministry concerned has given its blessing to this project and also to the recent change in Msida.

Here, the lane near the boċċi pitch remains available only for cars coming from Valletta and are returning there. As such, it remains unused. Cars travelling to Gżira and Sliema now have to go through the lights and this has caused bedlam. Heading to Valletta from Ta’ Xbiex, we now face yet another bus lane, with less space to manoeuvre as the driver faces traffic coming from the Regional Road and Birkirkara. Yet another hellish situation thanks to Transport Malta.

I have already written about the chaotic traffic being created, thanks to Bisazza Stree,t in Sliema being closed, the bus lane, which is now going to be extended, and the detour to The Point. Here again, they defy the obvious and create their own hell for us to endure.

Somebody with foresight and of some authority had best intervene because the common man such as I can only write and hope, before a bigger mess is created.
