Alfred Conti Borda writes:

A brilliant lawyer, a wise and learned judge, a man of the arts and pioneer champion for the environment, could best describe Maurice Caruana Curran.

After having graduated in Law in 1943, Maurice rose up through the ranks, defending, prosecuting and ultimately deciding on extremely difficult cases in the Maltese courts.

In 1965 he became aware of the constant unfolding carpet of concrete being spread over our precious natural countryside. As a result an idea flashed into his mind.

He founded Din L-Art Ħelwa, an organisation whose aim is to promote the beauty of our natural heritage, later the national heritage, an objective now actively pursued by his dynamic and enthusiastic daughter Simone.

Maurice was a witness in my marriage. Moreover, he was my mentor and encouraged me whenever I did not make the grade in my exams.

He advised me to try and try again until I finally succeeded. In fact, I have a hand-written letter from him which he sent me in 1968 and which I hold so dearly.

It was a great honour for me to come to know Maurice in 1955. I shall treasure these happy memories with great respect and esteem for this gentleman.

I am very sure that that the Lord has a place for him in the Heavens above.

My fondest condolences to his wife Cettina and his children Simone and Paul.

May he rest in peace.
