Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela visited the First Regiment of the Armed Forces of Malta based at Lyster Barracks in Ħal Far, where he met officers and soldiers who spoke about their overseas experiences.

The Armed Forces of Malta currently have an officer deployed at the Frontex Operations Centre in Italy and an intelligence officer serving at the EU’s Mission Headquarters in Northwood, UK, as part of Eunavfor Atalanta, Europe’s anti-piracy mission in Somalia’s coastal seas.

In recent months, personnel from the First Regiment have also participated in missions in Bulgaria, Greece and off the Somali coast.
