In an drive to encourage its staff to opt for a more environmental friendly lifestyle, Bank of Valletta has installed a number of electronic charging points in its garage at BOV centre in Santa Venera, specifically designated to be used by bank employees.

The first electronic point was installed when the bank ‘adopted’ an electronic car as part of its fleet for several months last year.

The measure is part of the EU Demo EV Life+ Funded Project supported by the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure.

The bank said that its initiative was a natural progression of its efforts to promote cleaner and a more silent means of transportation. BOV employees owning an electronic car may now reserve slots to charge their vehicles free of charge.

Speaking about the bank’s commitment towards green banking, Mark Marmara, the environmental manager at Bank of Valletta, explained that shifting to a more environmental-friendly lifestyle takes time and commitment.

“The bank feels that promoting green practices within the community in which it operates, particularly its employees and customers, is an integral part of its role as a corporate citizen,” said Mr Marmara.

One of the bank’s employees, Ray Cassar, who has been using the EV points provided by the bank for the past months explained how a fully-charged electronic car battery, which requires eight hours to charge, still works out cheaper than filling an average car tank with fuel.
