Emirates contributes to the direct, indirect and induced employment of 660 Maltese people in Dubai and for its daily operations in Malta.

Across the EU in 2013-2014, Emirates supported 85,100 jobs, equivalent to €6.8 billion. In addition, Emirates’ Airbus A380 deliveries for the same period supported 41,000 jobs, equivalent to €3.4 billion.

These figures result from a socio-economic impact study measuring Emirates’ contribution to the European economy conducted by the leading European consultancy Frontier Economics.

In addition to check-in staff and back-office positions, the airline contributes to the Maltese economy on a daily basis through purchases of a range of goods and services that include airport and landing fees, ground handling and baggage handling, fuel, catering, IT services, advertising and maintenance services.

This activity, which has a multiplier effect through the Maltese economy, also includes hotel accommodation expenses for its daily pilots and cabin crew staying overnight in Malta, as well as coach and car rentals.

Emirates has operated to Malta for the past 17 years. Malta was the 11th European destination and the 35th country worldwide.

The Frontier analysis, which covered 28 cities served by Emirates in 16 EU member states, identified 220 routes from Europe that are unique to Emirates. Of these, 21 are non-stop connections from European cities to Dubai, and the remaining 199 routes are unique one-stop connections, via Dubai. Using any other airline or alliance on these unique routes would require at least one more additional stop.
