The end of this month sees dancer and choreographer Felix Busuttil organising the first edition of the Malta International Dance and Competition Event.

The edition sees the participation of a consultation team that includes some of foremost names in local dance: Tanya Bajona, Francesca Abela Tranter, Justin Roy Barker, Sue Vassallo and Alistair Chetcuti.

The aim is for the event to become part of the national calendar organised every two years. The edition will include three days of dance classes in classical ballet, contemporary, modern and hip hop/commercial, conducted by top international dance artists from major dance institutions such as The Paris Opera Ballet and Maurice Bejart, as well as from TV programmes such as Mediaset’s Amici and So You Think You Can Dance USA and The Netherlands.

Bursaries, trophies, certificates and scholarships will be awarded

Included in the international line-up are also tutors who have worked personally with Pina Bausch and Akram Khan and who are appointed West End musicals choreographers.

The classes will be followed by preliminary competitions and a final gala performance.

The gala performance will be open to the public with local and foreign dance students invited to be part of the experience which will see some 20 dance personalities from all over the world coming together under one roof.

Bursaries, trophies and certificates will be awarded to one of each category, age group and genre. Major scholarships will also be available for dancers who show promise and talent.

The event will be a great opportunity for dancers, local and international, to further enhance their dance knowledge and meet world-renowned dance personalities.

The event supported by the Malta Arts Fund and Valletta 18 will be held on Friday, Saturday, next Sunday and on March 30. More information is available online.
