Enthusiasts in Malta and Gozo joined others all around the world to capture on camera one of nature’s most spectacular celestial phenomena.
Although today's was the most complete solar eclipse in Europe since 1999, from Malta, only about 38 per cent of the sun's disc was obscured by the dark body of the moon, though high cloud masked the spectacle from some areas.
Most of the photos above were taken with a solar filter.

Gozitan photographer Reno Rapa captured the above photo of today’s eclipse at 10.28am. Mr Rapa said he took the photo from Victoria using his Nikon camera.
