Luxol, Ħamrun Spartans and Balzan claimed important victories in the Futsal Premier Division to maintain their challenge for the championship.

Luxol, top of the league on 38 points, beat Qormi 10-3 while Ħamrun, one point behind in second place, extended their good form with a 7-2 win over Mosta.

Third-placed Balzan moved on the 30-point mark after trouncing Swieqi 13-0.

Florin Anton’s Luxol produced another polished display to sweep aside Qormi’s challenge.

The St Andrews outfit opened a 6-0 lead before half-time and remained on top after the break, scoring four more goals.

Dale Camilleri scored a hat-trick for Luxol while William Barbosa and Florin Anton hit a brace. The other goals came from Celino Alves, Peter Pullicino and Karl Saliba.

Basil Emeka Onuta, Blendi Gockaj and Marwan Telisi were Qormi’s scorers.

Mosta tried hard to avoid defeat against second-placed Ħamrun who took the initiative from the outset.

Raphinha (2), Mohammed Elamari (2), Rodrigo, Andy Mangion and Chris Cardona got the goals for Ħamrun with Mosta hitting back through Eslam Khalifa and Diego Gomes de Mello.

Balzan put on a dazzling attacking display against Swieqi.

A poker by Boicho Marev, a hat-trick by Slobodan Janjic, doubles from Mark Zammit and Frane Despotovic and goals from Glenn Bonello and Matthew Attard led the champions to a third consecutive victory.

In Division One, Lija Athletic hammered Birżebbuġa 12-5 to secure promotion.

Goals from Aleksandar Ribic (4), Omar Toutoungi (2), Redeemer Borg, Larkin Saffrett, Sean Keane, Mark Mizzi and Floren Manea ensured that Lija will play in the top category next season.

Peter Mark Cachia scored a hat-trick for Birżebbuġa who also had Andre Cutajar and Jean Paul Abdilla on the scoresheet.

In another match, Mdina Knights stunned promotion contenders Mellieħa, beating them 6-4.

The Knights defended boldly and annulled their opponents’ prolific scorers to register their seventh success of the championship.

Ronald Portelli was twice on the mark for Mdina while the other goals came from Neil Cauchi, Cleaven Portelli, Roberto Sarcia and Andrew Camilleri.

Nikolay Filipov, the leading scorer in the First Division, hit the target twice for Mellieħa while Radoslav Kovachev and Daniel Saliba hit the other goals.

Attard were 11-5 winners over Siġġiewi while Msida and Mqabba made it two wins on the trot after seeing off Luqa 6-4 and Qrendi 8-5 respectively.

Naxxar and Sirens figured in a 3-3 draw.
