Alastair Farrugia is one of the participants of the 16th edition of the Hamrun's San Ġorġ Preca Lyceum for Boys cycling marathon that was inaugurated on Friday and ends today.

Dr Farrugia, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis some 10 years ago, this morning completed 12 kilometres of cycling on a stationary bike during the three-day cycling marathon that is raising funds to provide schools with automated external defibrillators.

Automatic defibrillators can be used by anyone with first aid training and works by releasing an electric current to the chest area when a person’s heart stops during an attack.

The marathon’s events this year included a visit by former Inter player Ivan Cordoba, a science and technology exhibition, make-up and hairdressing services and a kids' area.

More than €30,000 have been collected so far.

For a donation of €10, people can call on 5160 2001, to donate €15 they can call on 5170 2002, €25 on 5180 2003 or send an SMS on 5061 7383 for a donation of €2.33.
