It would appear that Claire Bonello (‘Credibility matters’, The Sunday Times of Malta, March 8,) seems to harbour the odd opinion that “hunting is a bit of a macho affair, with burly men doing the shooting”.
Women, or is it lady, shooters may be a bit thin on the ground in Malta but that is not the case in the rest of Europe, especially in the UK.
Gun makers are now turning 20 bore shotguns in increasing numbers in addition to the more traditional 12 bores; the reason for this is that female shooters prefer the smaller bore as giving a gentler kick.
Going back to the misty past of classical mythology, the goddesses of the chase for the ancient Greeks and Romans were Artemis and Diana respectively – both eminently feminine.
So there.
