I am a wheelchair user and recently went to the passport office with my friend to renew my passport. I always ask beforehand whether the venue is accessible.

I was aware that the main entrance of Evans Building was accessible and that there is a lift that leads to the passport office upstairs on the second floor.

I went on a Saturday morning but the main reception was void of any receptionists, so my friend went upstairs for assistance and an employee from the passport office came down and apologised that there was nobody on duty on Saturdays to open the door to the lift.

Apparently, it seems the passport office in Valletta is open on Saturdays for non-disabled people. An employee advised me to visit during the week when receptionists would be able to help me.

This shows that inclusion is still a long way off in this country. I felt so disappointed and angry at the time.
