With no claim to fame except my persistent refusal to blindly accept that one may be presumed guilty of a crime simply because one drives a car, I have been challenged to provide evidence to support my argument. However, in providing just such evidence, I have become the subject of harsh public criticism simply for reproducing facts published by others.

I am now at a loss as to how one should argue a point, when such arguments become more personal than factual. May I simply state that I object most strongly to George Debono using the following quote by Lord Denning: “In the present state of motor traffic, I am persuaded that any civilised system of law should require, as a matter of principle, that the person who uses this dangerous instrument on the roads – dealing death and destruction all round – should be liable to make compensation to anyone who is killed or injured in consequence of the use of it.” (The Sunday Times of Malta, March 8).

I now leave it to others to pen their disapproval of such indiscriminate labelling of local car drivers as urban terrorists, when we are among the safest drivers in Europe.

We should all be equally responsible for the proper and safe use of public roads, without exception.
