I’d like to ask the government whether it has any idea about what’s going on at Arms Ltd.

I am tired of paying umpteen visits to Blata l-Bajda thanks to a mistake made either by Arms Ltd or Enemalta, with both sides blaming each other, leaving me the hapless victim of their inefficiency and utter lack of communication.

Over the years, I have always promptly paid my boathouse electricity bill to Enemalta but around two years ago, shortly after I went over to the Marsa premises to pay for the previous year’s electricity meter rental and consumption, the same amount was added to my residential water and electricity bill sent to me by Arms Ltd. So I was doubly billed and it’s a good job that I make it a point to file all my receipts.

Now Enemalta admitted to me that a mistake had been made, but not by them, while the other entity, although empathising with me and photocopying all the pertinent receipts, shifted the blame onto the former. Nevertheless, I was assured by Arms Ltd that the mistake would eventually be rectified.

The sad truth is that up to this very day, the double billing has persisted. To add insult to injury, a short while ago I received the second official letter from Arms Ltd threatening to cut off the electricity supply to my house.

So once again I had to take time off work only to be told to ignore the letter as well as the accruing debit interest and just pay the amount pertaining to my home address. When asked repeatedly how much longer would I have to wait until the error is corrected, the customer service employee could not give me a definite answer, sheepishly adding that it was no doubt some sort of “computer error”. “So it’s the computer’s fault now?” I angrily retorted.

What are these people waiting for? They have all my receipts proving that I don’t owe them anything and yet they seem to be waiting for their computer to sort things out.
