A portal has been set up to provide teachers, students and parents news and updates about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and related initiatives in Malta.

The portal – sciencecentre .malta.net – was launched at a two-day national conference entitled ‘New perspectives on early years and primary science education’ and attended by over 120 educators.

It was organised by the Department of Curriculum Management’s Science Centre as part of the Scientix project and supported by the Malta Council of Science and Technology (MCST).

The conference was addressed by Scientix project leader Agueda Gras-Velazquez, who spoke about Scientix 2 Europe-wide collaboration among STEM educators. Participants were also briefed on the projected facilities at the Esplora interactive science centre in Kalkara.

Another speaker was Melanie Mengel from the Little Scientists’ House Foundation. Participants later took part in workshops using innovative science education pedagogical practices based on the Little Scientists’ House programme.

A teacher from the science peripatetic team also shared her innovative teaching experience at Safi primary school.
