Seeing members of the Shout NO campaign stating their version of ‘facts’ proves words do come easy. What people should consider is the lack of facts to substantiate these words.

Shout rely on Birdlife Malta spokesmen to state ‘facts’ about birds. One assumes these people to be truthful and trustworthy when explaining fact to an uninformed public. They are anything but that and this is easily proven.

Birdlife Malta and others that parrot their words claim the two birds hunted in spring are declining. So do Birdlife International in their assessments of these birds.

What Shout do not mention is what Birdlife International have to say about this decline: “Despite the fact that the population trend appears to be decreasing, the decline is not believed to be sufficiently rapid to approach the thresholds for Vulnerable. The population size is extremely large. For these reasons the species is evaluated as Least Concern”.

Clearly, such a decline is of the least worry.

Seeing their opportunity to gather support for the NO vote, Birdlife Malta even go as far as ridiculing the European Court of Justice about this fact.

The insignificance of this decline is what permits eight million of the birds to be hunted each autumn in the EU. It is the basis upon which the European Court permits a small quota to be hunted in spring. Yet, for Birdlife Malta even this Court is an ass.

What is supposedly an ornithological society has transformed into the main inciter of an anti-hunting lobby that has no intention to state facts.

The NO campaign attempts to demonise hunters in order to gain votes and their deceit is there to see by all interested in fact. I have no doubts about supporting the YES vote.
