The Malta Football Association has temporarily suspended the former secretary of the Nadur Youngsters Football Club Anthony Sam Portelli and Xewkija Tigers player Paul Buttigieg from all football activities with immediate effect until allegations of corruption are investigated.

The corruption allegations centre around the two Nadur Youngsters vs Xewkija Tigers game on February 7.

The MFA said that as Mr Portelli was also a committee member and an official of the Nadur Youngsters FC at the time of the allegations, it would also be issuing a charge against the club.

It said that Mr Buttigieg was being suspended from all football activities.

The association also said it would be proposing to the council to declare George Joseph Sultana, who was not a member of the MFA, a persona non grata, disabling him from involving himself in any football activity in Malta or Gozo.

The association said that in order to allow justice to take its course unhindered, it would not be making any further comments on the issue until the process was concluded.
