Malta 51
Latvia 0

(11-0, 13-0, 14-0, 13-0)

The second fixture on yesterday’s programme was an absolute mismatch as Malta rolled in the goals against a sub-standard Latvia with a minimum of effort.

The one-sided nature of this clash was apparent from the very beginning as the local boys went on the rampage, constantly regaining premature possession to net freely especially through 15-goal Ben Plumpton, captain of the team.

The Latvians, comprising only nine units were so shorn of the game’s rudimentary skills that one could not really gauge the strength of the Maltese side.

It was a matter of how far the Maltese could extend their advantage in terms of goals and whether all their components, apart from the goalkeepers, could insert their names on the score sheet.

In the end it was a mammoth 51-0 victory with all the 11 outfield players scoring.

The outcome reflected the no contest element, with Karl Izzo’s team constantly regaining possession within a few seconds to find the opposing net with monotonous regularity.

Chief goleador, Plumpton, was followed by Kyle Navarro, with seven, Jeremy Abela and Darren Zammit, six each.
