Thirty-one Brazilian soldiers on the presidential security detail were injured when they were struck by lightning while on a military drill.

The incident occurred yesterday afternoon in the capital Brasilia.

The Army said the lightning struck during a heavy downpour while the soldiers were training in an open area near their battalion.

Some of the soldiers were knocked unconscious and others suffered minor burns. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
