A woman was yesterday awarded €3,700 in damages over a permanent disability she sustained in a traffic accident while riding on an Arriva bendy bus in February 2012.

Rita Galea struck her head against a metal bar when the driver, Mario Bugeja, slammed on the brakes in Msida.

She suffered permanent scarring on her forehead, which the court found constituted a five per cent disability. Mr Justice Anthony Ellul said the violence of the impact showed that Mr Bugeja must have been driving at speed and not keeping a proper lookout.

He found Mr Bugeja to be solely responsible for the accident.

Ms Galea filed her action for damages against both Mr Bugeja and the bus operator, Arriva Malta Limited.
