The db San Antonio Hotel and Spa in Qawra was inaugurated late yesterday by the prime minister after a €32 million refurbishment and extension.

The hotel now forms part of the db hotels and resorts chain which also includes the db Seabank Resort & Spa in Ghadira Bay.

The db San Antonio was completed in just six months and is now Malta's second biggest hotel in terms of rooms. 

Architecturally built in Moorish style, its 515 rooms spread across 10 floors along with five restaurants, four indoor, outdoor and rooftop pools, a fitness centre, Spa facilities with Moroccan treatments and conference facilities.

Silvio Debono, Seabank Group chairman said that over the past three years, the group had invested €72 million in the db Seabank and the db San Antonio. db San Antonio hotel was designed and will start operating on the same style of All-inclusive basis, 'with a 5 star service at 4 star prices'.

"We have ambitious plans for our new hotel chain and we are looking at both the local and foreign markets,” he said.

Vincent Degiorgio, director of db Hotels + ResortsO, said more than 30 companies employing around 900 people worked on the San Antonio and over 1,000 employees worked to supply it with goods and services to get it up and running.  

The hotel employs around 300 staff, going up to 400 during the summer.
