Applications from educators who wish to take a year’s sabbatical to further their studies will be received in the coming weeks, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said today.

He was speaking during a visit to St Clare College with Education Minister Evarist Bartolo.

Dr Muscat said the sabbatical scheme, announced in the Labour electoral programme, would be open not just for teachers, but all those involved in education. It was seen as a means to encourage people in the profession to further their studies, ultimately benefiting their students.

Dr Muscat also referred to co-education in government schools, started at St Clare’s, saying this had been a positive step to improve schoolchildren’s school experience.
