Students of Żurrieq Primary St Benedict College helped raise environmental awareness by distributing eco-friendly cloth bags to shoppers in their locality.

The bags feature artworks with environment and water conservation themes, created by the students themselves. The idea won them funding from the HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop campaign.

The bags were handed out to shoppers in the markets surrounding the school area. The students received a cloth bag each for their families and more of these bags will be used to support the bank’s Catch the Drop activities elsewhere.

Żurrieq mayor Ignatius Farrugia praised the students’ contribution and their work.

HSBC’s Water Programme is an educational water conservation campaign launched with the aim to raise the importance of water in a water-scarce country such as Malta.

The programme aims to educate nearly 50,000 students by 2016.
