Here in Greece we were surprised to hear that the Maltese Finance Minister was the strictest accuser against Greece, together with the German Finance Minister.

I lived in Malta 45 years ago where I worked for Nato for two years. I often used to read Times of Malta. Probably the Maltese people do not know that during the last five years European Union policy has led Greece to unprecedented poverty levels. Wages and pensions have been reduced by 30 to 50 per cent and unemployment among the young has risen to 65 per cent. Thousands of graduates have left the country in order to find work abroad; this is catastrophic for Greece. Our foreign debt is the biggest in Europe and we cannot pay for it as it gets larger and larger.

We must not forget that there are also millions of poor people in Germany and other European countries. We understand that the ‘markets’ govern the world today and not nations and everybody knows who governs the ‘markets’. Only God can save us.
