The Nationalist Party’s general council will convene tomorrow with the theme Nagħmlu differenza, or, in English, we make a difference. Two years down the line of this legislature , with probably less then three years left for the next general election, one can easily conclude that the PN, the people’s party, has indeed made a difference, even in Opposition. It has indeed been a catalyst for change for the people and country.

Were it not for the PN we would not be going to the polls to elect our local councils on April 11.

Were it not the PN motorists would not be paying cheaper fuel prices, albeit still higher than our European neighbours.

Had the PN not been here, we would still have an unchanged citizenship sale law which embarrassed us and damaged Malta’s image worldwide.

If it were not for the PN we would be still be fed the lie that Manuel Mallia’s incident was a hit and run.

It is also thanks to the PN that the Cafè Premier scandal would have been kept under wraps.

Had the PN not been present, there would be no doubt that Joseph Muscat and co. would have steamrolled on each and every of their opponents.

The PN, the people’s party, has made a difference, even in Opposition

The PN has unmasked the Labour Party’s winning slogans of Malta tagħna lkoll (Malta for all) and Tista’ taħdem magħna anke jekk ma taqbilx magħna (You can work with us even if you don’t share our views) as Muscat’s monuments of deceit.

Indeed, the PN has, over the last two years, been the catalyst of change. It has been the defender of the people.

However our duty does not stop here.

The future for this country looks bright because the PN is, as from now, preparing and laying the foundations for a change for the better once elected to govern again.

My message to the people is to join and become, as from now, a part of this party, which is determined to continue to steer Malta to greener pastures. We are determined to make a difference for the better.

My message to our youth is that the PN is their party, giving them the space to dream, challenge and implement their aspirations.

My message to the older generation is that PN is committed to ensure that their livelihood, their standard of living, their pensions, their way of life are safeguarded, protected and improved.

My message to all who every morning wake up and go to work and earn a living is that the PN is the workers’ party where the cry qalbna mal-ħaddiema (workers are in our hearts) is not simply a slogan but a commitment to create jobs, generate wealth and distribute such fairly.

My message to the business sector, big or small, is that the PN honestly believes that they are partners in the challenges that lie ahead. We promise a level playing field for all where letting everyone work, expand and be creative will be our policy - our firm belief.

The road ahead is not an easy one. However, I am convinced that we shall reap the fruits sooner rather than later.

I have been brought up to believe that when you do what is right, when you keep the high moral ground, when your opponent only lives for the moment to protect its own survival, then you shall win.

The PN is on the right track and, hence, will surely win.

The future - our future - beckons.

Beppe Fenech Adami is PN deputy leader for party affairs.
