Rachel Fitz and Rachid Chouhal will be representing the country at the European Indoor Championships which is currently being staged in Prague, Czech Republic.

This morning, both sprinters will be competing in the 60m dash in the opening heats.

Fitz and Chouhal were selected on the strength of their performances in the MAAA Track and Field pre-season meetings at Marsa last month.

In the indoor scene, Fitz made her big break in 2014 when she figured in the World Championships in Poland.

Chouhal is a seasoned campaigner but despite his veteran age he still continues to register impressive times.

At the championships, the two Maltese athletes will be accompanied by team official Anthony Fava.

During his stay in Prague, Fava will attend a series of presentations planned by the three candidates for the post of European Athletics president.

The three confirmed candidates are Jean Gracia (France), Svein Arne Hansen (Norway) and Antti Pihlakoski (Finland).

Incumbent president Hansjorg Wirz will hand over to the new president at the European Athletics Congress in Bled, Slovenia, on April 11 after leading the organisation for the past 16 years.
