A Valletta car park, new playing fields in Żejtun and repair works at the Mosta Civic Centre, are among 30 capital projects being funded by a new €1 million fund, Justice Minister Owen Bonnici said earlier today.

Addressing a press conference, Dr Bonnici said more than 83 proposals had been submitted by 53 councils since the fund was announced last year.

A board had been set up to select the projects and another had been set up for those that had not been selected to appeal the decision.

Mario Azzopardi, who headed the board, said the main criteria upon which projects were selected were their sustainability.

Picking up on this, Dr Bonnici said he wanted projects that did not worsen any local council’s financial situation, as this was already an issue for many localities.

Other projects include a park and ride system on Manoel Island, an educational centre in Żurrieq, and the resurfacing of a main road in Gudja.
