It seems that PN spokespersons have been directed by their leader, Simon Busuttil, to hold at least one press conference a week, if not more. Even if there is nothing of importance to speak about in the ministry they are shadowing.

If one were to compare what PN spokespersons used to speak about one year ago with what they are concentrating on today one would realise that they no longer speak about the most important issues which affect the daily lives of Maltese and Gozitan citizens.

No longer do we hear them addressing press conferences on the cost of living, unemployment figures, waiting lists, out-of-stock medicine or even the deficit.

No, they are now daily trying to find the proverbial pin in each ministry’s haystack.

And when they do find it, they try to inflate and colour the story as much as possible in order to impress those who are easily influenced by trivialities.

With the latest excellent certificates which the Labour government has received from the IMF, the European Commission and the credit rating agency Fitch, which has predicted that this government will erase the rise in the national debt, it was a must for Busuttil and the PN to divert the attention of voters.

Just as Busuttil and his party did when the last Budget was announced, blowing up the Paul Sheehan story in order to bury the excellent Budget that had just been announced, so this time too they are inflating the Café Premier story to bury the excellent results which the PL government, under the very able leadership of Joseph Muscat, is achieving.

Now the broker in the Café Premier deal, Mario Camilleri, has spoken to Times of Malta and revealed that he never donated any money to the PL or anybody connected with Labour. On the contrary, he said that, prior to the 2013 election, he had donated €1,000 to Lawrence Gonzi in the presence of Paul Borg Olivier. And, in 2014, had made a similar donation to Francis Zammit Dimech who was a candidate for the MEP elections. So the much-inflated story of the Café Premier has boomeranged on the PN, especially their allegation of “sleaze”.
