Fuel prices have gone up in Europe for the fifth successive week, while prices in Malta are going down, the Labour Party said today.

It said that according to EU data, the average price of petrol has risen by 2c to €1.39 while the price of diesel has gone up by 1c to €1.28.

Over five weeks, petrol had gone up by 9c and diesel by 10c.

During the same period, petrol and diesel prices in Malta had gone down by 7c, the Pl said, a difference for Maltese motorists of 16c for petrol and 17c for diesel.

The party said petrol is cheaper in Malta than in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Swede, Portugal, the Netherlands, Greece, Finland Denmark and Belgium.

Diesel is cheaper than int he UK, Italy Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland and Denmark.
