The Foreign Affairs Ministry appealed to all participants in this week’s forthcoming talks in Morocco between the parties in the Libyan conflict to demonstrate commitment, optimism and a sense of urgency to return to living as one people and one nation.

The talks, the ministry said, confirmed what it had been reiterating that there was absolutely no alternative to political dialogue and that Libyans could and must resolve their own differences.

The international community, the ministry said, would only assist Libyans on their path towards the building of a modern democratic state based on the rule of law and the respect for human rights.

The ministry congratulated and supported the special representative of the United Nations secretary general, Bernardino Leon, for his efforts and initiatives in bringing the parties to the negotiating table.

“It is now up to all parties involved to put aside their differences and endeavour to establish peace, security and stability in Libya,” it said.
