Opposition leader Simon Busuttil toured the notarial archives today and 'adopted' a book which is awaiting restoration.

During his tour he praised the volunteer staff for their dedication .

Dr Busuttil was shown around by Joan Abela,  President of the Resources Council of the Notarial Archives.

The council recently launched the adoption scheme where people offer donations for the restoration of a book, a volume, or the complete works filed by a notary.

Dr Busuttil adopted an 18th century document that was used as a passport issued by the Franciscans in the Holy Land. Dr Busuttil also offered to help in the sourcing of EU funds for the restoration works.

There are currently two persons qualified in restoration works, meaning the current backlog of restoration would need 900 years to complete.
