The government has promised gas distributors that it will inform them about its policy on door-to-door and fixed point distribution 'within days', the GRTU said today.

The distributors held a brief strike this morning after new licences were issued recently. Five new licences were issued for fixed point sales of gas, and two for distribution.

The distributors gathering near the entrance to the Freeport and protested over the new licences, saying they wanted to safeguard their livelihood.

Joe Attard said no further industrial action was planned until the policy was issued.

Mr Attard said the GRTU had no issue over the granting of new fixed point licences as long as safety measures were taken. It was unacceptable, he said, that gas was even being sold from outside a guesthouse in Msida as well as other similar locations. He also said that criteria had to be established on the number of distributors.
