Opposition leader Simon Busuttil said this afternoon that the latest downward revision of fuel prices showed how motorists were robbed for two months.

Replying to questions in a radio interview, Dr Busuttil said the government had originally said prices were fixed up to the end of March. The government only started moving after pressure by the PN, which was making a difference in people’s lives. It first reduced prices at the end of January and now also this month.

The obvious question, he said, was why motorists had been robbed for so long.

The government, he said, should not expect to be thanked for reducing prices which should have been reduced two months ago.

Dr Busuttil said that the March deadline had come for the inauguration of the new power station, but this project had not even started yet This, he said, was a major electoral promise by Joseph Muscat, and the fact that he had not kept it said a lot about his credibility.

In his comments Dr Busuttil also referred to the Swissleaks issue and noted that it was only now, two weeks after the controversy broke, that Dr Muscat had declared that anyone close to him found to hold secret accounts had to step down.

In contrast, Dr Busuttil said, he had made a similar declaration immediately the issue broke. What had kept Dr Muscat for so long?
