There were expected wins for top contenders San Ġiljan AllCare Insurance and Sliema Frank Salt Real Estate when they faced Valletta McDonald’s and Exiles Ferretti on day two of the Winter League Premier Division yesterday.

A third session spree during which they struck six goals enabled the Saints to register victory over the City team on 11-7, with Matthew Zammit and Dino Zammit providing their side’s main ammunition with a hat-trick each.

Valletta were on a par with their opponents until midway in that third quarter after which snap goals from the Zammit tandem put paid to their hopes of offering a sterner challenge despite the inclusion of centre Karl Galea.

In the second match, Sliema, were inspired by five-goal Michael Spiteri Staines (back from his loan stint with Valletta) and Mark Meli, scorer of four goals, when beating an improved Exiles by a four-goal margin.

After an advantage of four goals at the halfway mark the Blues maintained that victory gap till the end.

Exiles again conceded 14 goals but this time they scored ten unlike what they had done in their opening match when they found the net only once.

Sean Gravina was their leading striker with a nap-hand, with Julian Rizzo Naudi and David Pace Lupi scoring two each.
