The Bicycle Marathon, which has become an annual event, is fast approaching. This year it is going to take place between March 13 and 15 at the Lyceum in Ħamrun.

Once again the marathon will raise funds to provide primary, secondary and tertiary schools, as well as associations which work directly with children with automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

An AED helps a person who has suffered a cardiac arrest to resuscitate. If an AED is not handy, after approximately three to five minutes in cardiac arrest, irreversible brain or tissue damage may begin to occur and for every minute that a person in cardiac arrest goes without being successfully treated, the chance of survival decreases by seven per cent per minute in the first three minutes and 10 per cent per minute as time advances beyond three minutes.

Once again, a number of activities and attractions suitable for the whole family will be held during the marathon. It’s a must for country music lovers to join the fun during the line dancing session on March 13, while avid music fans must not miss out on the Big Band Brothers’ concert on March 14.
