Birkirkara broke little sweat to overcome the challenge of Mosta 3-0 and strengthen their grip on second place in the BOV Premier League standings.

Birkirkara created the first opportunity after 12 minutes when Edward Herrera sent a teasing cross into the path Shola Haruna who headed the ball just over.

Mosta failed to heed the alarm bells as four minutes later Birkirkara struck. Herrera again made headway from the right into the area before sending a low cross towards Ryan Camenzuli who stabbed the ball into the roof of the net.

The goal rattled Mosta who looked unable to produce any sort of reaction and it was no surprise that it was Birkirkara who doubled their advantage.

It was again Herrera who made all the damage as the wingback skipped his marker before picking up Camenzuli at the far post but the young winger saw his header coming off the upright. Ledesma was first to the rebound and the Brazilian wriggled his way past two defenders before hammering the ball into the net.

Birkirkara continued to hold the initiative and on 47 minutes Herrera should have added a third goal when he was put clear by Zerafa but he incredibly lobbed over with only goalkeeper Omar Borg to beat.

Birkirkara finally put paid to Mosta’s hopes of a recovery eight minutes from time when Maachi, who had earlier replaced Camenzuli, produced a burst of pace on the right that took him past marker before sending a low cross towards Edmond Agius who set up Haruna with an audacious back-heel and the Nigerian forward had little trouble to blast the ball into the net.
