How do you get to and from University? What transport problems do you face?

My parents drop me off and pick me up from University. The main problem is the morning rush-hour traffic. Warren Borg Ebejer, BA Hons in English, third year.

I use public transport daily. The main problem is that if I’m trying to reach the 8am lecture, I have to spend between 30 and 50 minutes to reach University, when it is technically only a 10-minute drive by car. Lizy Nwobodo, B.Sc Nursing, second year.

I use my car. The main problem is parking on campus. I usually end up driving around campus to find parking, sometimes for as long as an hour. Nicole Borg, B.Comm, second year.

With the new bus service, and KSU’s €10,000 Transport Fund, is enough being done to solve the traffic and parking problem at University?

I’ve never heard of the fund. I doubt whether enough is being done, as I still hear friends complaining that they need to go to University early to find a parking spot. Also, I always see the car park full. Warren Borg Ebejer

In general, yes. But I think that if more people used the buses and less people used their cars to get to University, maybe there would be less morning traffic. Lizy Nwobodo

I think this is a step forward to help solve the transport and parking issues at University. Nicole Borg

Do you have suggestions to address the issue?

There should be better advertising of the KSU transport fund by sending e-mails and informing about it directly to all the student organisations. Warren Borg Ebejer

I really don’t know how best to address the issue.

I could mention suggestions other people have made, like cycling (which frankly is dangerous on Maltese roads), car-pooling (never easy as it sounds) or using the buses (which are inefficient).

Although I agree that if everyone uses the buses it would make the situation better, as soon I get my licence and a wage to afford a car I’ll definitely start using it. Lizy Nwobodo

I believe the parking areas we already have should be used more strategically, perhaps by turning them into multi-storey car parks, so as to create more parking space. Nicole Borg
