Team Greens will be holding their annual club race tomorrow in Xagħra, Gozo.

The race, which is part of the Malta Cycling Federation calendar, will feature a 4.5km circuit starting from Xagħra centre down towards Rabat and back to starting point via Xagħra Hill.

The circuit provides a stern challenge to Elite riders as the distance is tackled 12 times.

Team Greens start favourites after winning the first two races of the season. This will also serve as a final preparatory race as the Greens embark on an international racing programme with the Tour of Algeria four days later.

Although locally cycling is portrayed as an individual sport, Team Greens are regarded as revolutionary in their approach to racing.

“In professional races the stronger you are together as a team the better your chances for success,” team captain Etienne Bonello said in a statement.

“Since we have taken the ambitious decision to figure in international races we had to adapt to the world of professional cycling and that has made us stronger.

“In fact, this season we have already proved to be ahead of our local competitors so we hope to sharpen up a bit more to achieve our first major target of the season – the Tour of Malta.”

Tomorrow’s race will be held in conjunction with the Xagħra Local Council, Gozo Sports Council and Greyhounds Club. The event will be sponsored by Greens Supermarket, BBB Bike Parts, Buff Headwear and Quest Vitamins.
