Żurrieq 1
Gudja United 0

Joseph Ogunnupe converted a late penalty to hand Żurrieq a priceless victory over Gudja that revived their hopes of avoiding relegation.

The Reds, under the charge of Winston Muscat, played a blinder to overcome the challenge of a Gudja side who are still in search of their first win from their last five matches and are almost out of the running for a promotion slot.

As regards Żurrieq, they remained third from bottom on 17 points, four adrift of Rabat Ajax.

Żurrieq were in control for much of the opening half.

On 15 minutes, Aaron Agius hit just over while on 20 minutes Gudja goalkeeper Yenz Cini did well to tip over Dylan Darmanin’s shot.

Gudja finally threatened on 33 minutes when in a swift break Peter Paul Sammut released Nick Ghio who shot just wide.

Nine minutes into the second half, Ogunnuppe was put clear by Agboebina but fired wide.

The Nigerian was again close on 71 minutes when he broke clear but was denied by the onrushing Cini.

Ogunnuppe kept hurting Gudja and four minutes later he burst past two defenders but was brought down in the area by Clayton Giordmaina. The Gudja defender was dismissed and from the penalty, Ogunnupe drilled the ball into the net.
