Several measures have been taken to help Maltese investment in Libya, the government said this evening.

In a statement issued by the finance and investment ministries, the government said Malta Enterprise was serving as a point of reference for companies affected by the crisis and a team was set up within the corporation to retain direct contact with companies with Maltese interests operating in Libya.

The VAT and income tax departments and the treasury were assisting enterprises identified by Malta Enterprise on an individual basis and the assistance package offered by the government varied according to the circumstances of the impact on these companies.

The measures, which included accelerated payment by the treasury for payments due by the government and VAT and income tax refunds, were aimed at reducing these companies' cash flow problem. The government was also providing direct assistance to workers operating in Libya.

Malta Enterprise was also working to help companies find new markets in Africa.
